Student Life
A student majoring in
physics is assigned to a faculty member who remains his/her academic
advisor until graduation. This personal attention ensures that each
major is aware of all possible academic opportunities and has a focal
point for advisement.
There is an active chapter of the Society of Physics
Students, which was recently designated an outstanding chapter by the
national office. Among its activities are visits to local research laboratories,
lectures by invited speakers, and social events. The SPS has
its own study room and office. The department also has a chapter of the physics
student honor society Sigma Pi Sigma
The department employs several majors
as graders, tutors and laboratory assistants.
