TITLE: "High-energy astrophysics of pulsars and their winds"
ABSTRACT: I will review observational and theoretical progress in our understanding of isolated magnetized neutrons stars and various phenomena associated with these remarkable objects. The talk will feature beautiful images (and movies) of pulsar-wind nebulae, whose synchrotron emission is powered by particles with PeV energies, and a peek into NS magnetospheres and interiors. I will specifically focus on multiwavelength view of these objects including the radio, optical, X-ray, and gamma-ray observations with Chandra X-ray Observatory, Hubble Space Telescope, ALMA, JVLA, NuStar, Fermi, and VERITAS. I will outline some of the outstanding questions in the field that still remain to be answered. I will also describe the current research focus of the Astro group at GWU.
