The Physics Department established a DEI Committee in September 2023. The purpose of the DEI Committee is to ensure the UMBC physics department is a welcoming community where all students, staff, and faculty are valued and supported.
Our key objectives are to:
- Promote a culture of inclusivity, respect, and equity within the department by listening to and implementing community feedback.
- Address discrimination and minimize bias within the department.
- Foster an environment where diverse backgrounds and perspectives are celebrated and supported.

Physics Department Code of Conduct
It is the policy of the UMBC Physics Department that all members, including faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students will conduct themselves in a professional manner that is welcoming to all participants and free from any form of discrimination, harassment, or retaliation. Members of the Department will treat each other with respect and consideration to create a collegial, inclusive, and professional environment in all Department meetings, activities, and spaces. Creating a supportive environment to enable learning, and discovery is the responsibility of all Department members.
