Description
The sixth annual Earth Day Symposium will be held on April 22 and the theme of this year's event is Equity and Environmental Justice.
This year, the Earth Day Symposium will be a collaboration between the UMBC Physics and Geography & Environmental Systems departments. We plan to focus on both the technical side (e.g., how satellite remote sensing can help us understand and achieve environmental justice), and the social/ public policy side of environmental justice.
Our event aims to expose UMBC students to research opportunities and promote internal and external collaboration with the wider scientific community.
The symposium will feature seminar talks and panel discussions, as well as a poster session showcasing graduate, undergraduate, and highschool student research. The agenda will also include events such as a weather balloon launch.
Some Guest speakers:
John Sullivan : NASA GSFC TOLNet Project Scientist
Dr. Maria Molina : NCAR
Dr. Henrique Barbosa : UMBC Faculty
Dr. Yaítza Luna-Cruz : Howard University, NASA,Chief Science Data Office, NASA HQ
