Predicting a single protein structure from the amino acid sequence. 

Short Research Synopsis: 

Dr. Porter's computational research challenges the one-sequence-one-structure paradigm with fold-switching proteins - a recently discovered class of proteins that can change their structures and functions in response to changes in their environments. Studying these mechanisms can assist in research about diseases like cancer, viral infections, and autoimmune diseases. Dr. Porter will also touch on what being an industry biophysicist is like and how it differs from the academia environment.
